FoodBlessed is a community-based, volunteer-driven local nonprofit organization that tackles food poverty in Lebanon while addressing and spreading awareness on food waste and food rescue. Food rescue, also called food recovery or food salvage, is the practice of retrieving edible food that would otherwise go to waste and distributing it to those in need. FoodBlessed provides daily, free meals for the homeless and low- income members of our community on a tri-weekly basis by diverting food destined for waste and using it to create delicious and healthy meals for the poor. The meals provided at each of our FoodBlessed soup kitchens are prepared and served by volunteers.
The initiative intercepts unwanted food from various partners, including supermarkets, farms, food retailers, restaurants, catering agencies and even rubbish bins. The community-based food rescue program provides an effective and efficient solution to hunger, while addressing the serious and growing problem of food waste in Lebanon. So far, FoodBlessed has been able to divert hundreds of tons of food from going to waste.
